Bed Wetting Alarms
The most commonly used solution to prevent bed wetting is the use of alarms. Many different types of bed wetting alarms are available in the market with different shapes and sizes. These come with different functions and alarm modes. Some come with a vibration option for heave sleepers. This aim of all these alarms is to wake up the child in time when the urine starts leaking so that the child can visit the toilet to relieve his bladder.
Most of these alarms function on the basis of moisture detection and sound the alarm when the bladder starts relieving itself on its own. The alarm sounds and wakes up the child or the parents who ensure that the child visits the toilet immediately and empties his bladder. Over the period of use the child develops the habit of knowing when his bladder is full and slowly moves towards a dry night.
It has been found that these alarms do not give results instantly and the parents still need to use diapers and other urine collection devices. It takes about 5-6 weeks for a child to get accustomed to the sound of the alarm so that he gets up on his own, till then it is the parents who need to get up and wake up the child and make him visit the toilet.
While choosing the alarm, care must be taken that it fits the body of the child properly and does not get switched off as the child changes positions in the bed. The alarm must have sufficient sound to wake up the child or his parents. Further, if the child is a very sound sleeper that normal sounding alarms are ineffective in waking the child, you need to get one with a vibration function. The vibration should be strong enough to shake the child and wake him up from deep slumber. So choose your alarm properly and get the desired results.
