Does Your Child Still Wet the Bed?
When an infant grows up the first good habit any parent teaches him is proper urinary control and habits. However, most kids who seem to have learnt the good bladder control during the day fail to control their bladder in sleep. This situation leads to bet wetting. The accumulated urine in the bladder exerts sufficient pressure leading to an automatic discharge of urine in the sleep. This situation can only be controlled by proper training of the child in bladder control. Normally a child gets control over his bladder functions as he grows up. However in some children the control function goes out of control in sleep leading to wetting of the bed.
Bed wetting is Enuresis in medical terminology and is universally found in children below 4 years of age and is considered quite normal in most societies. However, if the child does not stop bed wetting as he grows up there is some problem and this needs attention. Children of over six years of age and still bed wetting should not be ignored and immediately be referred to a medical practitioner for thorough investigation into core reasons for such a situation. If a child who has not been wetting his bed for long and starts bed wetting again also calls for a thorough investigation for ascertaining the reasons for such a situation. This is not to be ignored as the child may have some psychological problems arising out of stress due to family conditions and other surrounding. The root cause need to be identified and removed to cure this problem as bed wetting in itself has no cure.
The child needs emotional and psychological support from the parents to overcome this problem and all this requires immense patience and delicate handling by the parents.
